Current Status of Q3NameThing December 8, 1999 5:45AM EST
As soon as I get my copy of Quake 3 Arena, I'll look into updating Q3NameThing. Check back here after the New Year to see what's going on.

As far as FunNames go, I'm not sure what currently works and what doesn't. I tried things out a little while ago with one of the newer test versions and had varying success. If anyone wants to let me know of any successes or failures using Q3NameThing with the release version of Q3A, I'd appreciate it.

You can reach me at painfield@spyring.com.

Q3NameThing for Windows May 19, 1999 9:30AM EST
With Q3Test returns FunNames. FunNames are created by accessing the full Q3Test character set and color selection. With Q3NameThing, FunNames can be quickly and easily created and added to the Q3Test configuration file. Q3NameThing offers many features not available in similiar software such as full access to the complete character set, color preview using the actual Quake fonts and symbols, automated GameSpy compatibility, and more.

Sample FunName created using Q3NameThing

Note to GameSpy Users
Some users have reported that after applying the GameSpy fix and attempting to join a game, the "safe to close" window will appear however Q3Test doesn't run. This occurs when Q3Test is installed in a folder other than the default location (c:\q3test). To fix this, replace the existing q3gsfix.bat file in the Q3Test folder with the updated q3gsfix.bat (Netscape users: right-click and select "Save Link As", IE users: right-click and select "Save Target As"). If you aren't experiencing this problem there is no need to update the file.

Announcing Q3NameThing Online Edition May 19, 1999 9:30AM EST
Due to the positive response to Q3NameThing for Windows, pfgSoft has started development of a web-based version known as Q3NameThing Online Edition. The hope is to provide Mac and Linux users with a way to easily create FunNames. Due to the limitations of web technology, the online edition offers only a subset of Q3NameThing's functionality. Currently there are quite a few problems with Netscape and Q3NameThing Online Edition.
